Purolite Life Sciences has announced it has secured a long-term supply agreement with Repligen Corporation (NASDAQ:RGEN) for the manufacture of Protein-A ligands. These ligands are a critical component of the high-flow agarose-based Protein A chromatography range of resins in Purolite’s Praesto™ portfolio.
At the same time, Purolite launched their latest Protein A agarose resin, Praesto AP which utilises an alkaline tolerant Protein A giving high flow and high capacities of over 60 g/l and over 250 cycles reuse. High capacity reduces processing time and the amount of resin required, lowering overall costs.
Chris Major, Sales Director for Purolite Life Sciences said, “This agreement ensures the supply of high quality Protein-A ligands into our Praesto™ portfolio of high flow agarose resins. Repligen provides dual site supply for critical raw materials and has a long-standing history of successfully supplying a variety of Protein A ligands to the industry.”
Major added, “We have combined our 35 years of resin knowledge, quality, manufacturing and regulatory experience with world-leading agarose expertise. In less than 18 months, we have developed Praesto™AP the best Protein-A resin available to date. Just imagine what we can do in the next 35 years.”
Protein-A ligands are a highly critical component in affinity chromatography media used in the purification of monoclonal antibodies. The vast majority of today’s commercial mAb-based biologic medicines are purified using Protein A resins that incorporate ligands manufactured by Repligen. The mAbs market continues to grow, with worldwide revenues in 2015 exceeding $85 billion.
